CCTV and access control
CCTV done right, GDPR included.
Kooijman Connection installs CCTV and access control for businesses and homes: IP cameras, storage on a recorder or in the cloud, intercom and access by card or app. Set up in line with the GDPR and managed remotely after handover, by our own team from Harmelen.
What goes into CCTV?
Good CCTV starts with the question of what you want to see: who comes in, what happens on the site or where things go wrong. From there we choose the cameras, their positions, the storage and who may view the footage. That way you get usable footage and stay within the rules.
- 01IP cameras
- Up to 4K, with night vision, indoor and outdoor, over one network cable (PoE).
- 02Storage
- On a recorder (NVR) on site, in the cloud or both.
- 03Remote viewing
- Live and playback via app or browser, with rights per user.
- 04Smart detection
- Alerts for people or vehicles in a zone, not for every moving branch.
- 05Access control
- Doors opened by card, code or app, with a log of who came in when.
- 06Intercom
- See and talk to whoever rings, and open the door remotely.

What does the GDPR allow?
Camera footage is personal data. These are the main rules for cameras at a business in the Netherlands.
| The rule | |
|---|---|
| Purpose | There must be a clear purpose, such as protecting people and property. |
| Signs | Visitors and staff must know in advance that cameras are in use, for example through signs. |
| Retention | No longer than necessary; the Dutch Data Protection Authority advises 4 weeks at most, longer only after an incident. |
| Public road and neighbours | Cameras must not needlessly film the public road or other people’s property. |
| Staff | If your company has a works council, it must agree in advance. |
| Hidden cameras | Only in exceptional cases and temporarily, never permanently. |
We set up the cameras to capture only what is needed, with privacy masks where required, and set the retention period correctly from the start.

Recorder on site or cloud?
Footage can be stored locally on a recorder (NVR) or in the cloud. Both have advantages.
| Recorder (NVR) | Cloud | |
|---|---|---|
| Storage | On site, on drives in the recorder | With a service in a data centre |
| Cost | One-off purchase | Subscription per camera |
| Internet needed | Only for remote viewing | For recording and viewing |
| After theft or fire | The recorder can be lost too | Footage stays safe |
| Suits | Many cameras, high resolution | A few cameras, several sites |
We often combine both: record everything locally, and key cameras or alerts in the cloud as well.
Which access control fits?
From one door with a code to a building with rights per person and per time.
| Keypad | Card or tag | App or mobile | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suits | One door, small group | Offices and warehouses | Changing users, several sites |
| Rights per person | Limited | Yes, per door and time | Yes, also temporary and remote |
| If lost | Change the code | Block the card | Revoke access in the app |
What does CCTV cost for a business?
No fixed prices: it depends on the site. After an on-site meeting you receive a proposal. These are the factors.
- 01
Number of cameras
How many entrances, rooms and outdoor areas need covering.
- 02
Camera type
Resolution, night vision, zoom and smart detection.
- 03
Storage
Recorder on site, cloud subscription or both, and for how long.
- 04
Cabling
Distances, outdoor work, facade mounting and aerial platforms.
- 05
Access control
Number of doors, readers and the type of lock.
- 06
Management
Monitoring, updates and maintenance after handover.

Frequently asked questions about CCTV
01How long may I keep camera footage?
No longer than necessary. The Dutch Data Protection Authority uses 4 weeks as a guideline. After an incident, such as a break-in, you may keep the footage until it has been dealt with.
02May I film my staff?
Only with a clear purpose, such as security, and when staff know cameras are in use. If your company has a works council, it must agree in advance. Continuously filming employees at their workstation is generally not allowed.
03Can I view the cameras on my phone?
Yes. Through an app or browser you watch live and search recordings. We set per user what they may see.
04Do you also install CCTV for homes?
Yes. Kooijman Connection installs CCTV for businesses and private homes. Rules apply at home too: cameras must not needlessly film the public road or the neighbours’ garden.
05Can CCTV be linked to access control?
Yes. Then every door opening comes with the matching camera image, and the intercom shows who is ringing before you open.
06Which brands do you work with?
We are brand-independent, from budget to enterprise. We choose per site on picture quality, management and budget; the design names the cameras we propose.
What needs to be in view?
Book an on-site meeting. We walk the site and advise cameras, storage and access that fit.
